ADAPTATION THROUGH ADAGE

holding the weight of the word

There is a precision in the condensing of experiences to parables. A simple sentence bearing the weight of unforeseen joy and untold heartache. Even the spells you create embody the passion held in each breath. Power lying in the tongue, simple notions of life and death, calling for us to explore the fullness of each poised phrase.

“If you want peace, prepare for war”, a well known phrase embodying the necessity of strife to succeed. Lessons of life dripping through the tales of our generations not only reminiscing on the past, but whispering warnings of the future. Such wisdom could be found even in the simplest turn of phrase. “Keep on living”, my grandmother would say. Those kind eyes full of the truth shown to her, anticipating the many truths soon to unfold. From dialect to determination, there was no escaping what you had been taught and nothing you couldn’t learn from.

Consider the sayings you hold near and dear to your heart. Reminders of strength on lonely nights of defeat. Joyful affirmations of congratulations and completion. What had you been given the opportunity to learn before you actually had a chance to experience it? How many of your tools have you inherited?

Such is the goal of life, to discern and distribute the experience into a formidable message to guide those viewing through their journey. Our ability to learn from each other through the simplicity of language a true gift of the present. It often makes me question how much is left unspoken. What emotions rolled down our face when words escaped us? How much life does one miss out on simplifying it into words?
